Should i do a BIOS Update?

I have had an MSI Z97-GAMING 5 motherboard for just under a year and I have never does a BIOS update. Should i do one and if i do will i have to re do my OC? What benefits does it have over the BIOS i have currently?

PC Specs:

CPU: Intel i9 12900K

CPU Cooler: Corsair Hydro H150i Elite Capellix

Mother Board: MSI z690 carbon WiFi

RAM: Corsair DDR5 6400MT/S

Storage: 2TB Samsung 970 Plus NVMe, 240 SanDisk SSD Plus, Crucial MX300 750GB SSD

GPU: Nvidia RTX 3090Ti FE

Case: Phanteks NV5

PSU: Corsair RM1000X

OS: Windows 11 Home

Monitor: Acer Predator XB271HU 27" 1440p @ 165hz

Keyboard: Razer Black Widow Chroma

Mouse: Logitech G502

Sound: Sony MDR 1000x Headphones, Blue Snowball Microphone

 

Laptop Specs:

Gigabyte Aorus 15G

CPU: Intel i7 10875H

RAM: 16gb DDR4

Storage: 512gb NVMe, 1TB Crucial MX300 SATA SSD

GPU: Nvidia RTX 2070 Max-Q

You should only update your BIOS if you have functional problems with your current version, or you need a newer one to take advantage of a device you want to add into your build. As far as the overclock is concerned, it depends on how the BIOS update is performed. In most cases, the existing settings should remain.

depends on your current bios version. Sometimes a update could add functionallity or fix security flaws.

Main PC:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D | RAM:Corsair LPX 3200 mhz (32GB) 

Mobo:ASUS Strix B550-F Wifi | GPU: Gigabyte 9070

Case: Sharkoon Nightshark RGB| Storage: 500 GB 970 EVO Plus 1 TB WD blue 500 GB Samsung HDD

Powersupply: Cooler Master GX III Gold 750

 

 

Main Laptop

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 4800H | RAM: Team group 16 GB 2666 mhz

GPU: RTX 2060 (MXM swappable)

Monitor: 1080p 120Hz

Storage: 2x 1 TB Samsung 970 EVO NVMe (no raid)

CPU: Intel Core I5 1235u,  RAM: Crucial 16 GB 3200 mhz

GPU: IrisXe 80 eu

yes. if you don't know what you're doing and the update goes wrong, your system will stop working and you need an new motherboard

most newer boards have dual bios, one broken it recovers from a back up.

true. But in case of his motherboard that's not the case ;)

if you dont have a problem with the current BIOS then dont, it could brick your motherboard

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

so long as the power does cut out during the update it'll be fine but as people have said; isn't broken, don't fix it.
