Help with thermal paste

Hi everyone, 

I'm building a game pc and have all the components. I only need help with installing the CPU and CPU cooler. My question is: how much thermal paste do I need? And in which shape? A cross, dot or line? 

Any other tips with building will also be appreciated. :D

For the 7600K, I recommend the dot method or the line method.
