It's probably more effective to upgrade backwards at that point.

The 6300 isn't a marked improvement over the 4300, really.

 

An amd phenom ii 965 BE would be about equivalent, and even better than the FX-6300 in a lot of tasks due to it's higher IPC, and a definite improvement over the FX-4300. It'll do better with older games than even the FX-83XX series will, and you can pick up chips for dirt cheap which would save you money for a real upgrade.

 

Kind of regretted not just starting with that chip when I was looking at some Passmark benches.

Stock single-threaded performance of the 965 kicks the crap out of an overclocked FX chip. The 965 honestly doesn't even fall that far behind in multi-threaded, which is again, at it's stock clocks.
