AMD FX 4300

What's a good upgrade from the FX 4300? I have around £100 budget. Looking for AMD CPU's only.

is the 4350 worth getting

or maybe something from the 6000 series? like the 6350, that is what i'm currently thinking about getting. I'm not going to get RYZEN as of now, I just need this cpu for a few months until i do a complete new build. Thanks.

Only upgrade you should be looking at is a platform switch. Save money until you can do a Ryzen build.

You wont notice a performance jump from the 4300 to the 4350 at all. You also wont really see one from the 6350, if you dont go Ryzen, youre wasting your own money.

  • CPU: Intel Core i7-6700k @4.3ghz, Motherboard: Gigabyte Z170X Gaming 7, RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB @2400mhz, GPU: Gigabyte GTX 1080 G1 , Case: Corsair 300R, Storage: Samsung 850 EVO 256GB SSD, WD 1TB Black HDD, WD 2TB HDD PSU: Evga SuperNova 750 G2, Display: ASUS VG248QE @144hz, Cooling: Cooler Master V8 GTS, Keyboard: Corsair K95 RGB Platinum, Mouse: Logitech G502 Lightspeed, Sound: Phillips SHP9500 + VModa Boom Pro, Operating System: Windows 10 Pro

How about an FX-8320E? $118USD free shipping. Would it cook the board at stock clocks? Another option would be a used Skylake mobo and CPU and reuse your RAM. Honestly I would try the 8320 and then start saving for Ryzen.

Black Knight-

Ryzen 5 5600, GIGABYTE B550M DS3H, 16Gb Corsair Vengeance LPX 3000mhz, Asrock RX 6800 XT Phantom Gaming,

Seasonic Focus GM 750, Samsung EVO 860 EVO SSD M.2, Intel 660p Series M.2 2280 1TB PCIe NVMe, Linux Mint 20.2 Cinnamon

Daughter's Rig;

MSI B450 A Pro, Ryzen 5 3600x, 16GB Corsair Vengeance LPX 3000mhz, Silicon Power A55 512GB SSD, Gigabyte RX 5700 Gaming OC, Corsair CX430

Thank you finally a comment that answers my question, I was asking for suggestions and specifically said im not going to get ryzen. The  FX-8320E  seems like a great choice, looks like i'm getting that! Thank you.

Do More research. The VRM on your board will likely be maxed out feeding it. DO NOT OVERCLOCK. It should work fine at stock speeds though.

I can't tell you what power phase arrangement you have on the VRM (Voltage Regulation Mosfets), I can tell you you have no heatsinks on them. Proceed with caution, and do not OC. I know 8350s on cheap boards have resulted in sparks, smoke, and fire. You should be alright with an 8320E though. Any FX should work.

would you recommend to be on the safe side, to just get a 6350 instead?

Nope, 6350 actually uses more power. 8350 will draw less and keep VRMs cooler.

LOL, that was another question i was going to ask you :) How do you cool it? Do you think stock cooler should be ok? Or should I get an aftermarket cooler, most likely the noctua cpu cooler :D

The reason I didn't recommend a 6300 is because I have read it's not a significant improvement over a 4300. Ymmv
