Ryzen For Gaming?

So, I've seen some videos about Ryzen and I am building a new PC soon. I currently have an i7 7700k on the list, but the 1700 Ryzen chip has twice as many threads and cores. What got me suspicious is that the chip only ran at 3.something Ghz instead of the base 4.2Ghz of the 7700k

You have to understand what these chips are designed for: Heavy multi-tasking. If your only focus is for gaming, and you want to build today, and still have a pretty darn good system, buy a 7700k and accompanying MB (updated Z170 or Z270). You will not notice the lack of cores, and the CPU speed will easilly clock to 5GHz.

 

But if your use case is to game AND encode AND stream to the internet AND and and... all at the same time: Go all in for a Ryzen 1800x.

From what i've seen for the 1700X, the 7700k would be you'r better option for gaming. But obviously until reviewers do their benchmarks, no-one will know.

With a pretty beefy overclock it may be able to beat out the 7700k for single/quad core performance, after all it was running at only 3.4ghz
