Hi, I recently purchased an ASUS ROG STRIX GL502VS-DB71 and I noticed a big difference between boot times on the laptop and my desktop. here are the desktop specs: asus x99 rampage v edition 10, i7 6800k @ 4.0ghz. 32GB corsair vengeance lpx, gtx 980 ti, windows 10 on a mydigitalssd bpx m.2 480gb. Now this is how the boot goes on the laptop first it shows the asus log and goes straight into windows login screen without any windows logo screen. On my desktop it shows the bios screen first (where you have the option to go into bios) than it shows the windows logo for like 25 secs and finally the login screen. I'm curious to know why is the desktop taking longer to get into the login screen compared to the laptop even though it has a lot more compute power than the laptop. Is there more stuff for desktops to load compared to a laptop causing the dleay? Is there any way to get similar boot time on a desktop as compared to a laptop? This has been bugging me for a while...

do you have uefi boot on the desktop?

Does boot time really matter though? Just sleep your system.

what do you mean by uefi boot? I know I have it when i go into bios, but other than that idk.

to answer your 2nd question no it doesn't really matter, but it's something I would like to know about. I'm mainly curious why there is a drastic difference between the two.

Desktops take longer to boot because it has more things to evaluate and configure hardware wise. The firmware has to be more generic in order to handle the flexibility a desktop gives you.

Laptops on the other hand have a fixed configuration and thus it's easy for the manufacturer to create a tailored firmware that only configures what the laptop is going to have.
