So, I need something to get me by as My gpu died and I shoved a 5450 that i had laying around in for the time being to keep my pc running.

I'm looking for nothing great I'd love something like a 4gb 480 as I play fairly easy to run games and such. Currently I've got 97 USD in my paypal to get something, or I can wait a month and get get something that's around 150 usd. I've seen some good deals on things in the recent past like $130 dollar 480's and such which intrigues me. I'd prefer to get something sooner than wait a month+ but if it comes down to that i can wait.

Does anyone have any recommendations on other cards to look at I've search a bit on the used market, but some cards like the 7970 are pretty overpriced for what they are IMO, when I'm comparing a 480 or a 960 at a good sale price to them.

I'd mow a couple lawns in the neighborhood and then just get the 480 :P

Funny... But like I say in post I'd just wait a month and i'd have the money anyway.

Also... I have no neighbors.

rx480 and the gtx 960 are completely different tier, the 480 is a bit faster than a 1060 in newer games. if you can pick up a 480 8gb.

My apologies I mean 1060 just a habit my brain doesn't go to that 10XX and wants to reset the naming scheme lol

just look at games you are playing, if you like older games the 1060 6gb will be better if you like newer games the 480 will preform much bettter.

Well, Actually I play rather simple games such as League and Overwatch - so they both would work well, my primary purpose for my GPU however is GPU accelerated video encoding in all honesty.

openCL vs cuda your pick, most software supports both.

Yep, both are suppported from what I've heard Open CL is about 10% faster when comparing about equal cards. In the mean time I'm using my 1230v3 to do the encoding, and it's taking about 4 times as long as my 6970 was.

(keep in mind I'm using my cpu during this process) EDIT: usually working on vectors and 3d models while I wait

If you're that close, I'd just live with the 5450 (vomit) for a month. Does 25 FPS on Solitaire at 1024x768...playable!

If you want to save up extra and go for the 480 8GB (I highly recommend that course of action), then going after something used like a Kepler or an R9 270/270X makes sense. I landed a 660 Ti for $40 today, so the deals are out there. If you're set on the 4GB RX 480, I would recommend getting an RX 470 instead. They cost less and can be overclocked to match a stock 4GB 480.

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.
