Need tips on upgrading my computer

Toon

Basically to sum this up: I have a gaming computer that was pre-built by Asus and I was thinking it's finally time to get this thing upgraded as new game titles are coming out with higher graphical settings that are needed, plus I also do some video editing, photoshopping, and developing (Java <3), anyways, so I cam here for tips on what I could do to make my build better and what to upgrade. Here are the specs (I don't know them exactly):

AMD FX-8300

Random 8000 series (Forgot which, but it has 2GB vram)

12gb of RAM (Blame Asus)

 1TB Seagate HDD

Some motherboard by Asus

Some factory made 350w power supply

and their default case

I have a budget of $700 to get this thing upgraded to a new case, better parts, and if possible, maybe some lightning to make it look nice. I was planning on reusing some of parts such as my CPU, RAM, HDD, and Motherboard for now, so if you can please exclude those unless you can find a way to get better specs for up to $700.

In case you wanna know more about the computer, here's the best estimation I could find of it:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00EOGGUIW/

Thanks

Edit: I also apologize if I sound fairly dumb here, I am no PC expert in terms of specifications, but I do know how to build computers.

I'd go with a 1070, even with a bottleneck he can still do with his FX CPU like he said he'd like to for now, get an SSD, another HDD a good case and the PSU you listed.

The 8300 is CRAP, it performs worse than an i3.... Honestly, you will get a much better experience with an i5/i7 and a 1060/480.

From my experience, it has worked fairly well. I am not sure why people call it bad while if you overclock it a bit so it can match the performance of its 8350 version.

true it is dated and crappier than the latest i3's (NOT an older version) but he can still game with it really well and the 1070 will still perform great in most games, I lose about 10-20 fps on average vs my 4970k with my 1070 on my friend's 8320 and it's still more than playable if he plans on upgrading the CPU in the near (after ryzen release) future

Well, as you said, it works fairly well. But it is not good enough to be paired even with a 1060. BTW, the 8300 is a terrible overclocker compared to the 8320/8350...

it's not that bad, I played some GTA V; ROTR; WATCH DOGS 2 and a few others and all of them perform fairly well (a load better than his current rig) and with him having a $ 700 budget he can bells and whistle up his rig with parts he can keep later once he has some more moola to up his game even more, otherwise he rushes in now, buys a great CPU and has a mid range GPU... then he'd have to buy a new GPU later yet again

Note: I say bells and whistle up, but I mean the extras others neglect, like storage and a nice case plus an SSD

Alright, thanks everyone! I think I'll settle with @PCGuy_5960's build for now. For now it seems as the best choice and I can just reuse some of my parts to save some money. I understand Ryzen is coming out soon with the huge hype and personally I love AMD, but I can't really be waiting that long especially with the recent problems that I've been facing now. Once more, I thank everyone for their contribution here!
