$500 Budget Gaming PC Help.

HazardVortex

I'm have been wanting to build a PC for a long while now, and this is going to be my First PC. I do know a fair amount about computers and how they work. The PC I am hoping for will be able to play games at medium-high settings, and 40-60+ fps. I am hoping to get 16gb of ram and 4gb of Vram like a 1050 Ti. Any Cheap Quad Core like a Pentium G4560, i3, or i5 if possible. I do not want liquid cooling. Any ATX case will do. I also absolutely need an OS since I'm not for getting one illegally. I would be Okay with Steam OS depending on how you get it and install it. Their isn't any Thrift Stores, Recycling Centers, or Anything Like That Where I Live.

First, go to a scrapyard of recycling center. Get your case and power supply from there for under $10. If you are lucky and you go to a recycling center, they may also have some CPUs, RAM, hard drives and motherboards there. All can be bought for an extremely low price.

For $500, DO NOT buy all your parts new. You can get far, far more value for your money by buying used PC parts or even a mix of new/used PC parts.

Ehh should he really skimp out on the PSU?

Buy modern, buy used. Tell seller to use on their own rig for you to see. If they refuse then don't buy it.

I would go to a Scrapyard or Recycling Center but I live in The Upper Peninsula in Michigan and as far as I know their is no place like that. I really wish their was though.

If you want new:

Install Windows 10 directly from Microsoft. It's legal and free. When you want to activate it, get a key from Kinguin, Reddit, or Microsoft and activate it.

why would anybody give the bad advice of going to recycle centers or craigs list to someone who is ignorant of building and doesn't have the funds to buy something else if he makes a mistake. Buy NEW.

I put a cheap one together not long ago but it didn't need an operating system..... using the g4560 a cheap MSI Mb and an 8gig stick of ram.

I don't have time to shop now but will try and get back to this thread tomorrow.

BIOS update difficulty always depends on the particular motherboard. Most newer motherboards allow you to either flash the BIOS by simply hooking a USB drive up to a particular port, or using a GUI tool inside of Windows. More difficult updates would require you to use a DOS based utility such as AFUDOS to manually flash from the command line.

I just recently built a Photoshop/Illustrator/AI/Gaming machine for under $500 by recycling an old power supply and case... Then I purchased a $110 motherboard for $90 along with an i5-7600 Kaby Lake processor for $190 on Jet.com using a new account and their TRIPLE15 %30 discount. Then I got 8GB RAM $56 (later purchased another 8GB for 16) and a 460 GTX I had laying around. Eventually I purchased a 1050 TI SSC ACX card for about $150.90. With a recycled SSD and 2 HDDs I had this has a complete build. (since the i5 non-k edition comes with a stock cooler)

This ads up to $496. After I recovered from that I went and purchased a new case. I am able to run Battlefield 1 on Ultra without any issues as well as do any work I need inside of Photoshop.

If you don't have an existing hard drive or psu laying around this may be an extra expense. In which case you could easily pick up something cheap to hold you over for a couple of months at a salvage/pawn/computer shop in town. Sometimes they have so much stuff laying around they're  to give it away.

Well...

That RAM config is weird. 12GB of RAM with 1 4gb 2133 and 1 8gb 2400 makes no sense at ALL. BIOS updating could require a CPU (on certain mobos). The i3-7100 in my build is still better than the Pentium, while being paired with a compatible board and a MUCH better GPU, all you have to do is add a budget case of your choosing, such as the Bitfenix Nova or Comrade.

***ALSO SUPERCRAPPY PSU ALERT***

you shouldn't need to update the BIOS if you go to any of the board manufacturers sites and look to see if the board comes with a BIOS to support that cpu.......... something I hope some of these guys did before suggesting the boards they did.

Thanks LabRat and Shiv the Power Supply is from the trusted company EVGA and the Ram makes sense to me, I need/want more than 8gb of Ram but I cant afford 16gb so 12 should work and as far as compatibility goes PCPartPicker says it would work just fine and yes I do know that automated sites like this are not always correct. I went for the Pentium because of my budget and it costs $40 less. I also went with the 1050 Ti becuase again of My Budget if my budget was $700-$1000 then yeah I would choose a different Gpu.

Sure, it's made by EVGA, but it is very low-quality. Getting RAM from two different manufacturers and different frequencies can cause major issues; if you really want 12GB I would get an 8GB and 4GB kit of the same RAM. My build still has much better performance than yours, at the same price, with higher quality parts as well.........
