Hello, this is my first ever build plan that I did with other people.

I aim to use this new rig for CAD, video editing and image editing, and some gaming and streaming.

This is going to be my main workstation after I repurpose the old one as NAS.

Please let me know if I missed something or if I can make it better.

IMPORTANT DETAIL: I have a very tight budget of 1300US$, and it might even go lower if things don't go according to plan.

Location: South Korea, Asia (currency: KRW)

Not all fans will be installed on this build, as some of them will be installed on the older rig to replace the cheap 900RPM fan I got as an emergency replacement.

Wait for the 8c/16t Ryzen Chips for sure, comes out in a few weeks

You don't need all those fans man, cases tend to come with enough fans as is, spend the money on a better PSU and probably an 8GB RX 480 for your productivity stuff

at minimum you'll want a 1080p IPS display

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

Then look for a 120mm fan 4 pack like this one from coolermaster, maybe one that comes with molex adapters, XFX used to have one

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103052

Just remember to wait for Ryzen, should get way more performance for your money

If you want to play with more extreme overclocking pick up the XFX GTR 8GB 480 potentially

What advantage does 4 pack one have over single ones? I don't think they do.

Plus the other mobo has dedicated fan sockets, so no need for Molex plugs.

I am slightly skeptical about Ryzen's going-over-i7-ism. I will see the benchmark first when it comes out then decide.

I do not plan to overclock that much.

based on your use case you would highly benefit from more cores so amds new chips would be a really good option if the end up being good and priced well.

Ryzen might get you 8 cores 16 threads for around the same price as the i7 7700K, maybe just lowered clocked

the 120mm fan 4 pack is 4 fans for the price of one of those fans, a far more economical buy lol

Here's the latest Ryzen Rumors, final announcement should be happening at GDC

This isn't going to be built anytime soon because of my build budget being empty for now (and I have to work) so I think waiting for the thing to come out then deciding is a good idea.

But let's assume Ryzen was just a overpriced hunk of metal and it's better to stick with Kaby Lake instead, and then discuss how I can make this build better. (Do not talk about fans-being-too-many-ism, please. NOT ALL OF THEM WILL BE INSTALLED ON THIS RIG.)

Note: I am not saying AMD is a bad choice, I am just giving this thing a second thought before moving to Ryzen build altogether.

But you could still spend like $25, and get 8 120mm fans, as opposed to spending $80+ on fans

far as the build goes, already posted the updated build list, it's highly unlikely that Ryzen will be horrible, mostly it'll just end up lacking some single threaded performance vs a 5ghz kaby Lake Chip

Ryzen is not out yet so let's assess how this build will turn out to be, okay?

I still want to hop onto the Ryzen train once it comes out!
