Cheap Metal Body Laptop

Hi guys,

I am looking for a cheap laptop, for school use.

I want a metal body or at least someting comparable to the XPS 13,

but it dose not have to particulary powerful.

My budget is around 600€.

(Pls no Chromebooks and OSX)

I don't think you'll really find a full metal laptop, especially on the cheap side.

You can look at used Samsung Series 9s. They have a metal lid, plastic base.

Have you looked for XPS13s on eBay? In the US they go quite cheap.

Unfortunately I live in Germany, where the XPS 13 is still like 999€ used

What about Zenbooks?

You don't need super new. Even my i5-3317 can smash school work.

Maybe buy a refurbished HP Elitebook? Typing on an EliteBook 8460p right now since it's what they give us at work, and the all-metal build quality is pretty nice even if the specs/screen isn't impressive. Dropped it in the parking lot once and it still works fine lol

EDIT: I used to see refurbs of these models online for like $300 USD, so they're cheap enough.

I will check that out, but since I am kinda spoiled with my parents working with the XPS 13 I kinda want one with such thin bezels xD

I recommend the HP Elitebook or maybe it was the Probook, take a look at them. They were our old model of laptops used at work and tbh I loved the build quality on them. I don't really understand why newer, more expensive laptops are made out of flimsy plastic...

Heh, gotcha. Yeah, the EliteBook, while nice, wasn't designed with style in mind. I still have a fondness for it though. xD

I suppose another option might be the Acer Aspire V? I bought a refurbished Acer Aspire V3 for ~$480 USD (not sure what prices will be like where you are). All metal, reasonably thin, 1080p screen, white-backlit keyboard, surprisingly decent speakers... though I can't say I remember what the bezels are like since I don't have it in front of me. My only real complaint is that opening it up to swap out the HDD for an SSD was a real pain.

I'd recommend it if you could get a good price.

Me thinks that it's simply too far out of your budget :P

Either save, or get something plastic.

How about something plastic, but with reasonable build quality and thin bezels?

You do know that some of the most durable laptops are made with a plastic shell right?

Material =/= build quality.

A used Business laptop seems to fit nicely herem something like a T440s or X250, both of them are way better build than any macbook and blade. A elitebook would also be a good option, I just can't remember the exact models.

Before you buy amp and dac.  My thoughts on the M50x  Ultimate Ears Reference monitor review I might have a thing for audio...

My main Headphones and IEMs:  K612 pro, HD 25 and Ultimate Ears Reference Monitor, HD 580 with HD 600 grills

DAC and AMP: RME ADI 2 DAC

Speakers: Genelec 8040, System Audio SA205

Receiver: Denon AVR-1612

Desktop: R7 1700, GTX 1080  RX 580 8GB and other stuff

Laptop: ThinkPad P50: i7 6820HQ, M2000M. ThinkPad T420s: i7 2640M, NVS 4200M
