Resizing main partition issue

TBBZ8X8

I cannot resize my main partition. I don't have any space left on the drive. I can't touch it with terminal. It makes sense that I can't resize the main partition but at the same time I am not sure ... here's a picture...

How have you determined that you cannot resize it?

My native language is C++

I click the partition and go to partition/resize. When I try to change the values or click and drag it won't change...

is it mounted? You can't shrink ext4 when mounted. You have to unmount it then shrink it.

You'll probably have to boot from a Live CD to do a resize while the drive is unmounted or run a gparted boot drive and do it there. He's not going to be able to unmount a drive mounted to / while his computer is running...

Ok now here's the real question can I then mount the new partition that I am planing to put  on dev/sda1 to a folder inside a folder that has a different drive mounted to it?

Why do you need a new partition. Id just make a folder.

You don't need a partition to mount anouther drive. You can mount the other drive any where.

No I have a different drive that's way bigger that I use for my nas but I am running out of space on it so I was just going to partition my boot drive off and mount it within my share folder so I could hold off on buying another drive a bit longer

no need ao partition it then. You can then just use a folder and make a nfs share. If you want to limit the amout of space used you can use quotas.
