Look at the pictures... there's a pci-e right under the GPU.

It's about 1cm maybe less space between.

The fan doesnt seem to hit the bottom card...

 

Also ... can i use smaller pci-e cards like this one in the longer pci-e slots?

i wonder why sata ports are still completely hidden under the gpu after all theses years... why not put them somewhere else more practical lol

you *can* use the short card in the longer slots, but you shouldnt if you can avoid doing so, because they usually reduce your GPU's slot to 8x bandwidth.

 

that said, you have a 1x slot above your GPU, is there a reason you cant put it there? having it underneath your GPU isnt a problem, but the silence freak inside me is screaming over the few % extra fan speed that may require

Yes you can as long as the fan is not obstructed or you gpu temp doesnt rise many degrees. It also happends to me on my mobo with the gpu and the soundcard, but surprisingly It doesnt affect the airflow for the gpu at all.

not really, its just one of those "trivial" things that becomes a habit for people who do this crap often.
