My internet is too slow for Steam to authenticate  Trust me, I've tried many times.  I usually use Steam in offline mode, however for some reason that isn't working.  I have tried a few fixes, including editing the steam config files to enable offline mode, but my password hasn't saved.  Is there any way I can access my steam games without logging into steam (highly unlikely as steam is a drm), or is there a back-door I can use to "log in" without internet.

Thank-you!

No method i know of to make use of your games without signing in outside of becoming a pirate. But that requires internet decent enough to download stuff in the first place so thats no good if your connection is so slow you cant even get steam to work properly. Though thinking about it now you shouldnt have to authenticate every time you start it in offline mode. Once you set it to offline mode you should just get a popup when you start it asking if you want to go online or start in offline mode.

When you spend a ton of money for your PC and not enough money for a decent internet connection. :D

With that out of the way, what is your internet speed? Are you wired or not?

I currently play PUBG, help me get chicken dinner xD

I pay well over $100 per month for a internet.  Advertised speeds of up to 5mbps, I get >1mbps with a 100gb data cap.  The service is called "Explornet," and it is the only thing I can get in my area.  Just over 1 kilometer away they have cable, but I am stick with a wireless connection.

Just gotta thank the Canadian government (and ISPs to an extent) for pouring tons of money into getting cable for the north, while many areas in the much more populated south is highly neglected.  Oh well....

If I could pay more for something better, trust me, I would.

2017 and with this bullshit.  Yep.  It is especially bad because I used to live where the internet was half the price for unlimited data, 5x faster, and 100x more reliable.

Any cellular Internet there. While bandwidth caps are tight, for simple authentication, it works very well. I do this myself. Games, I download to my Windows tablet at work, or another open Hotspot, then I transfer over and authenticate it.

If not, and things aren't looking to change anytime soon, this could very well be a viable fringe case for a Gaming Laptop, I'm afraid.

Well I certainly cannot justify a gaming laptop when I have a gaming rig at home.  I will probably have to bring my computer to school to get better internet, log into steam, update games, and hope that offline mode doesn't log out.

Weirdly enough, I have two systems that work perfectly fine with Offline Mode and not connecting them to Internet. My third, I cannot get to work without an internet connection at all.

That is a horror story. :o

I've heard Steam only works for a few weeks in Offline mode before it needs to contact Valve's servers again anyway, so unfortunately even if you find a way to get that working it may only a temporary solution. I've never really put it to the test myself, though.

If you can't even log into Steam, that doesn't sound like a speed issue, that sounds like the connection is extremely unstable, probably through excessive packet loss. You may want to contact your ISP and tell them about this. Maybe it can be fixed. I don't think 1 Mbps is "too slow" for Steam to simply connect and let you play your games offline.

You should complain about not getting your advertised speeds anyway.

My connection is cellular, and as a result I have a ping of around 2000ms, and I really wouldn't be surprised if packet loss is a thing.

I will probably have to physically bring my computer to a place with better internet, not very elegant, but a solution nonetheless.
