Unpublished blog draft is visible

Delicieuxz

I've started putting together some details for a blog post that I haven't yet published, and there's the 'unpublished' icon within the blog post, yet the post is visible when I look at my blog page while not logged into LTT:

Is this a bug, or something else? As far as I understand, a blog post that is unpublished should not be, well, published and visible to anyone, except myself, when I'm logged into my account.

I can't read it. Is it the first option on your blogs?

Yes. When I click it while not logged in, I can't read it, either. It says the website can't find the page I'm looking for, or something like that.

However, the listing of the blog post, its title, and some preview contents appear in the blog entry list, and I'm pretty sure all of those things run contrary to the concept of not publishing details of a non-published blog post. It seems to me like it would be a bug.

Quite a few forums have issues with preview text displaying for locked content. You could give it a randomly generated placeholder title, and some lorem ipsum to pad out the first paragraph to hide work in progress.

Good idea. I've done that now.

I think the matter still needs to be fixed, and that having blog posts appear before they're ready and wanted to is a privacy issue, and discourages the act of working on them to get them ready for reveal.

Totally agreed, I did not intend for my suggestion to be a replacement to resolving the issue, just a temporary workaround until a solution can be implemented.

Thanks for reporting. This is definitely a bug, and I have passed it on to the forum software devs.

Great.

I'd also like to suggest that the Publish slider be changed into two separate buttons: One for saving the blog post as a draft, the other for publishing the post.

With there being one action button, and a slider that changes the behaviour of the action button, I wonder if I'm going to just click the button to save a draft without remembering to first click the slider to change the button into a 'save draft' button, instead of a 'publish post' button.

I think that just having separate buttons for 'save draft' and 'publish blog' avoids that mistake, and also makes things clearer, while also making things more efficient - since separate buttons makes saving and publishing both one-click actions, whereas the slider makes publishing a one-click action, but saving a draft a two-click action.
