Complete freeze while playing games

Go to solution Solved by Wendulan,

Okay I think I solved the issue! It wasn't a hardware problem. As suggested by SSS33 it was the EVGA software conflicting with Nvidia GeForce experience. I don't have freezes anymore (And somehow my Graphic Cards are quieter now XD). Thank you all for your help, I really appreciate it! This forum is really great.

Hi there

For a while now my PC freezes completly while I'm playing a game. Until now it happend in Star Citizen and the beta of For Honor. I have recently installed a second GTX 780 but had that issue already bevor that.

The problem seems to occur at random. Sometimes it's fine, sometimes not.

My system Specs:

CPU: i7 4770k

GPU: 2x GTX 780

PSU: Coolermaster 850W

Ram: 16GB Kingston HyperX DDR3 (1333Mhz)

CPU Cooling: H100i 120mm

Motherboard: Sabertooth z87

What I tried until now:

GPU Temprature never went over 78-80 Celsius

Scanned the Harddrives

Scanned the CPU and Motherboard with Intel Processor Diagonstics tool and  Hot CPU tester Pro (light version)

The programms that run are usually:

For Honor/Star Citizen

Steam

Dropbox

EVGA Precision X

Kaspersky Antivirus

Logitech Driver (Keyboard and Headset)

Roccat Driver (Mouse)

Samsung Magician

f.Lux

Nvidia GeForce Experience

And sometimes Firefox

I should add that my Graphic Cards are not Overclocked at the moment.

I sure hope you can help me. It is pretty annoying to restart the Computer everytime

Are you running any overclocks on the CPU or GPU? Maybe they are unstable depending on the load.

I do not know what you mean with your first sentence but no because I still have warranty on my new GTX 780 I refrain from overclocking at the moment. My CPU is not overclocked either.

does the pc lock up and not respond at all? or if you press the power button once does it react?

I did not try that but Ctrl + Alt + Delete does not work and Ctrl + Shift + Esc doesn't work either. I'll Try that next time it happens.

Nope none at all.

Maybe it's a RAM issue. Did you check RAM usage while gaming? Perhaps you're exceeding your capacity or something's wrong. You could try running MemTest86 to check your memory.

If nothing works I'll try that, but it is definitely my last resort.

So cpu gpu under strain it freezes - have you updated the drivers for gpu? Sometimes settings get changed other than that you set or default settings, did you check thermal throttling settings and power limits? or more than one driver for gpu running causing conflict? Had conflict with wattman (amd) and msi afterburner - more gpu governing, but more than one application trying to control your graphics card parameters

I'm running everything at default at the moment. The latesr drivers are installed. I don' know were the settings for thermal throttling and power limits are but I can check them if you tell me where they are.

And you suggest that it could be the EVGA programm conflicting with geforce experience?

I said that I would try that, IF nothing else worked, and I did that didn't I? Additionally it seemed to me like you suggested that I do all these things together and I thought that that was a little extreme. It seems I misunderstood you, sorry.
