Skype microphone stops working randomly

I have been having an issue with my Skype where the mic for ONLY me stops working. I can hear everything just fine and my connection is great. So is theirs.... but sometimes and completely randomly my mic shuts off. It doesn't seem to have anything to do with my headset as I completely changed headphones and re downloaded everything. very frustrated and I cant figure out why its doing it. It only seems to happen with Skype though since FB video chat has been working just fine now for awhile. Any ideas?

Is this a USB mic or a 3.5mm mic?

 

If it is USB and plugged into a hub, you may be draining too much power from the hub, causing things to disconnect. Can happen if you have a camera, mic, controller etc all plugged in an on at once, as is likely with Skype.

I recommend heading to the Skype forums. It sounds like its a skype problem and they will be able to give you better support.
