I have a my old rig that i'm trying to upgrade and i'm looking into putting an m.2 pcie drive for it because why not. But I don't know if it will function 100% allowing me to boot to the drive and run my OS and everything off of the drive.

The system config as of right now is an i5-3570k and a GTX 980ti Classy and the mobo is an Asus P8Z77-V LK.

If I remember it was only Z97 and newer boards that will only allow M.2 or PCI-E based drives to be the main boot or OS drive, anything before then can only use them as mass storage.

That's not the point I already have an extra 950pro and I was seeing if I could buy a riser to use it in this older system for boot and other things
