I recently bought parts to build a brand new computer (except GPU and 1 HDD) but it's CPU usage is way over what it should be. For example CS:GO should be using max 40-50% but is now using 70-80% sometimes even 90% CPU usage which is nuts. Same goes with other games like Planetside 2 and the Ghost Recon Wildlands Beta. I've troubleshooted a bit but with little success. A bottleneck calculator sais my system is only 7% bottlenecked because of the OS being on the HDD instead of the SSD but that is nothing compared to what im experiencing. I haven't overclocked any components in my PC. What could the problem be?

Don't use bottleneck calculators.

Have you checked the CPU priority for CS:GO?

Have you installed the chipset/SATA/VGA/etc. drivers?

Can you clone the OS to the SSD? Or do a clean install?

- It's on High.
- Yes, all latest drivers are installed.

- I will do a clean install as soon as I get my hands over an USB on Monday.

Ehhhh?? It's supposed to have a base clock of 3.5GHz and a boost of 3.9GHz...

Looking at my signature are we now? Well too bad there's nothing here...

1: Monitor Clock speed, it might be your cpu clocks down as long as its under 100% load to ''save power'',

there are always annoying bios settings that do something like that.

2. Check in the task manage what is using what % of the cpu, there might be some buggy windows process chewing up your cpu.

3. Lock you framerate @ 60 fps, stuff maybe your cpu usage is just high because csgo runs at like 300 fps?.

1. I've checked the BIOS and other windows settings and it runs on High Performance mode which doesn't try to save much power.
2. It's the game i'm playing most often that is eating CPU power. Sometimes Steam Client but never any windows process other than Windows Defender before I turned it off.
3. I have but with no good results. Can't see a major or even a minor change in CPU usage.

Are you running the monitor off the GPU or CPU?

70-80% is normal, CSGO stresses first 3 threads and nothing else. HRTF update made it stress first thread worse.

Then how about Planetside 2 using 95% of the CPU and Ghost Recon using 80-95% making the FPS drop to 10? I've compared a little with a friend who got the same CPU and GPU and he's running both games on solid 60 with 40-50% CPU usage and CSGO at 30% usage. I know there are other parameters but it shouldn't make that huge of a difference.

No idea about Ghost Recon, but PlanetSide2 has always been CPU-heavy.

Get HWInfo64 and see if it's thermal throtting when you run a game, maybe cooler is improperly fitted. If it isn't, then contact ASUS.

idk
