First Build In Over 10 Years. Plus a Cat :) - Updated

KyleKyleKyle

Ok so this is going to be my first build I have done in around 10-15 years. Highschool was the last time I was doing things like this lol. I will be posting pictures as I go along with the build and updates. Waiting on some items to come in the mail, and some are out of stock on the websites. As soon as I can I will order them.

Old Computer (Just for fun)

So up first here is the current computer I am using. It is an HP Envy with an MSI Gaming X GTX1060 6gb that I somehow managed to stuff in there. I have also added a 525GB SSD that is somewhere in there.

(The Cable Management Is Beautiful)

ONTO THE NEW :D

New Build Specs:

Case : Corsair 750D Airflow (arrived)

CPU : Intel I-7 7700K (arrived)

MOBO : ASUS ROG Maximus IX Hero Z270chipset (arrived)

PSU : Evga G3 750 FullModular (Ordered, somewhere across the country still)

RAM : Geil Potenza DDR4 16GB (Arrived) (Thinking of getting 16GB more)

CPU Cooler : Corsair H115i (Ordered)

Drives : Corsair MP500 m.2 nvme (cant decide 240 or the 480), Crucial 525GB MX300 (in the old computer), May add in some of my other HDDs for fun

GPU : MSI Gaming X GTX1060 6GB (already have)

Guess I am going with a red and black theme since my GPU was already red and black when I decided to do this lol.

Here is a picture of the case that came, and my Official Supervisor for the build:

I will post more of my adventure over the next week as I get time to build it. And as the parts come in, if they can find there way here lol. I am using a camera phone right now for the pictures so if they are a bit blurry sorry. Until Next Post :D

Just for fun here are a few things ::

Old computer specs. i7 4790, 500w psu, a random motherboard, a 1tb HDD, there is an m.2 SSD in it also, but its only 16gb and tiny, diskbench said it reads a file at 3333 mbp/s I might be doing something wrong on that. Started with a Nvide 745(oem) 4GB.

Here is a picture of the size difference between the two GPUs lol

@deXxterlab97  Eventually I may get a better GPU, but I am not sure if I should wait for the next gen of the GTX to come out or not. So for now I am just going to use the 1060. I got the case so that in the future I can also add things or change things as needed. I like the amount of space to work in it.

The cat in your picture, not literally to look at your cat for the answer.

Ok a little update. Still waiting on some more parts to arrive this week. So far I put in the motherboard, cpu, and the ram. I took out the bottom HDD trays because I will be mounting some extra fans down there. The rest of the parts will arrive this week so I hope to have it finished by then :D

Why an i7 7700k with only a 1060?

why not? People keep CPU's for years and GPU's are upgraded much more often. It makes sense to go with a more powerful CPU from the off to last longer. I have a 4790k, if I opted for the i5 at that time i'd probably be due an upgrade by now - in the same time I've had 280X, 970, 970 SLI and now 1080gtx

Ok so I got it all together, and it posted on the first try :D So Happy. this thing seems to be idling at 25c. Got a push/pull front mounted radiator, so 4x140mm fans on it. I will post pictures after work tomorrow. Going to let it settle in for a day or so before I try any overclocking.

OK here are the other parts that arrived :20170214_163040.jpg

I somehow managed to get a push/pull on the radiator :20170214_182705.jpg20170214_190026.jpg

There an extra 120mm on the bottom. I only got a 120 and 140 going out the top and back. Think I am going to order two 140s to go out the top.

First time booting up :D I was surprised, thought I might have to redo some wiring but it worked lol.

It sits idle at 25c on the cpu. With Youtube, Minecraft, and a couple other things running it is around 43c. I used some ASUS program to change the cpu to 4.9ghz and it seemed to be working fine. Tomorrow I am going to see about OCing through the BIOS. The memory is in XMP profile so its at 3000mhz I believe.

  • 4 weeks later...

Ok so after my ASUS MOBO went Bonkers on me, I went out an got the MSI Z270 xpower gaming titanium. Also since these posts I redid my radiator to have a push/pull configuration. 20170310_202932.jpg20170310_213248.jpg

I also went to 32GB of DDR4 3000 Ram
