Hey People  

 

I have two questions for you lot today! I picked up my 4790k today for £30 (Plus my old i5 4670k) Is that a good deal in its own right? 

 

Secondly, I have a MSI Gaming 5 mobo and a Be quiet dark rock 3 (Non pro ) cpu cooler. I know every chip is different but what OC should I aim for? (Side note, should I look at getting a Kracken x62 or a corsair h100iv2?)

Yes, add a 0 to that and that's how much I paid for mine. I also have the same MSI Gaming 5 motherboard, but didn't overclock much so I can't help you there (4GHz was good enough).

 

Edit: currency kerfuffle, I read as $30, still crazy deal, just makes my comment about how much I paid for mine not valid.

You can overclock the CPU to 4.7/4.8GHz and it will run stable.
I have overclocked mine to 5.0GHz

It's a crazy good deal!

 

As for cooling I think you wont have to care much, the DR3 is quite the solid cooler.

If you want to be totally sure and don't like the 70+ degrees much- definetly get either of the two watercoolers you mentioned.

If I did get a water cooler, what would be the better choice out of them 2?

Without even looking it up I'd pick the Kraken x62 because it's so damn sexy and has great reviews.

I know for sure the H100i is a great cooler too, but you know.. Sex is important

 

But for real, the x62 will most likely outperform the H100i since it's 280mm and H100i is 240mm.

Bigger rad - more cooling.

 

I know there are other factors in this, but yeah.

I bought mine new for $200 on black friday more than two years ago and I thought that was a good deal!
