Hi all. I started "initializing" my raid 6 array three days ago using the "MegaRAID Storage Manager" and it is at 50%. is this normal?

 Asus Maximus VIII Hero

i7-6700k

32GB Corsair Dominator Platinum

Samsung 850 EVO 500BG

LSI 9260-8i

5x WD red 4TB HDD (for the RAID array)

Whatever you do, pray the power doesn't go out (You have to start over) and do not turn off the PC.

 

Also, I hope you tested each drive (Using WD Lifeguard diagnostics) to make sure it wasn't DOA / damanged (happens) before making the array.

 

Oh right, I remembered, my new six 4TB Red array took only 7 hours because I found a setting in MegaRAID Storage Manager that lets you decide how much of the RAID card is allowed to be used for the initialization. By default, the value was 10% I think. If you change this value to 100% (Since you have no other arrays anyway), the initialization time should drop quite a bit.
