AMD 8350 HELP

Go to solution Solved by SpaceGhostC2C,

I can't find information about the motherboard model in your link. However, if it doesn't support more than 16GB of RAM, it must be a very specific model, since most AM3+ boards would go to 32GB. Hence, I suggest double checking that, because his main concern is not going to be the PSU, but the power delivery on the motherboard. A weak VRM or a poorly cooled one could have trouble running an FX-8350.

In other words: the 8350 will fit, but it may or may not be a good idea depending on the motherboard. Hence, make sure you get the exact motherboard model before deciding.

Hey guys!

A friend of mine bought a pre-built PC for way too much, and I was helping him do some upgrades so he can have a better running PC. He is going to be using it for primarily video editing. This is the link to the PC he has: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=9795073&MobileOptOut=1, but his GPU is a R7 250 instead of the GT730. Every other spec is the same. He upgraded to 16 GB of RAM today because that's the most that motherboard could handle, but I know his 4300 is the same socket as the 8350. My only concern is that motherboard cannot handle the power of the 8350. I don't know much about motherboards, so could anyone let me know if this would be able to handle the 8350? He's not needing to do any overclocking or anything. If not, could you let me know a good, cheap motherboard he could get that would help and be more reliable? Also, would this PSU be okay in either case: https://www.amazon.com/EVGA-WHITE-Power-Supply-100-W1-0500-KR/dp/B00H33SFJU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1486490751&sr=8-1&keywords=evga+500+w ?

Thanks for your help!

I wouldn't upgrade to a 8350. It won't be much faster in games. Id save up for a i5 upgrade or ryzen

He's using it for video editing, like I said, not gaming. He's wanting to make the most of what he has. All I'm wanting to know is if the motherboard could physically handle an 8350 in its place...

Yes, a 4 and 8 pin power design can handle it. But I wouldn't suggest overclocking. I would also suggest getting the 8320 the 8350 is just an overclocked 8320.

Specs v-v

Thank you! He definitely doesn't need to overclock it at all. And would the EVGA 500W 80+ be enough? And just making sure I'm correct, this is the right CPU: https://www.amazon.com/AMD-FD8320FRHKBOX-FX-8320-8-Core-Processor/dp/B009O7YU56/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1486492072&sr=8-1&keywords=fx+8320 .

500W is more than enough

Moro (hello)
I just upgraded from Phenom II 970 BE on Asrock 970 extreme 4 to FX 8350. Got major problems with  MB powerdesign. Atleast the 8350 came with Msi 970 gaming Mobo, so i switched to that and all works. Msi 970 Gaming is cheap and you can find used boards really cheap from internet.
The powerdesign on the board is really important with FX 8k+ series. That rig your friend has might have custom Mobo, check if it can handle 140W+ TDP or up to 200W.
The better power you can feed to cpu, the better is the stability as far as it's ennough power and cooling is ok.

G - The noob that didn't first check the powerdesign...
