Lenovo Thinkpad P50. Is it worth it?

I just want to ask you guys for your opinions. Is the Lenovo Thinkpad P50 worth it for Autodesk Revit/Google SketchUp? I am on the field of Engineering and Architecture. Or do you think it might be an overkill? If yes, what cheaper laptop would you recommend? Thanks guys!

i think the w541 would be fine for that, you don't need a super expensive quadro for things like that - @Icuw1pc - or even a t460 or t450 with some upgrades - personally i prefer the older thinkpads but with upgraded ram and storage because of the build quality

I can honestly say an upgraded T430 can keep up with the best of them now, with the i7 I've got in mine it keeps up with top of the line machines now with a mobile processor.

I've got a W540 with a few upgrades mainly the trackpad, and a few SSD's. I still prefer to use my T430, it's powerful and lightweight. Aso with the ultra-bay battery and other batteries it lasts all day.

CPU: i7-4770k @4.8ghz---Motherboard: Asus Sabertooth z97---Ram 32gb Corsair Vengeance---GPU: 2 EVGA GTX 980 4gb way sli---Case: Corsair 600T White---Storage: 500gb 850 Pro & WD Black 4tb---PSU: Corsair RM1000

Yes. But it's HELLA expensive. If you're a professional, get your company to subsidize it. If you're a student, not worth, too expensive. Get a used Thinkpad like the fine gentlemen (or ladies) above have mentioned.

YES it is 100% worth it and the P51 should be out fairly soon, so the P50 should see a drop in price. If you are a student, then I would get a used W540 or look for a used P50 (they are slowly starting to show up used).

Google sketchUp can run on a ULV, but with Autodesk programs I like to have a real quad core.

Before you buy amp and dac.  My thoughts on the M50x  Ultimate Ears Reference monitor review I might have a thing for audio...

My main Headphones and IEMs:  K612 pro, HD 25 and Ultimate Ears Reference Monitor, HD 580 with HD 600 grills

DAC and AMP: RME ADI 2 DAC

Speakers: Genelec 8040, System Audio SA205

Receiver: Denon AVR-1612

Desktop: R7 1700, GTX 1080  RX 580 8GB and other stuff

Laptop: ThinkPad P50: i7 6820HQ, M2000M. ThinkPad T420s: i7 2640M, NVS 4200M
