am running a standard 1080p screen atm and think about going to 1440p ultrawide i wanted to know is there any point of doing it? as the ultrawides are starting at £550 a standard 1440p is £300 and 4k is £400 so is ultrawide worth it?

Your system souls handle it fine. So it comes down to weather or not you see yourself noticing the difference. I grew up as a console gamer, so personally I find 1080p to be pleanty and see no need for more pixels.

i am a the same came from console around a year ago now and i can run 1440p ultra 80fps on bf1 on this build so i was going to make the move to 1440p but is the worth the £300 to go ultrawide

I personally don't think so, but a lot of people do. I would see if you can find something at least similar to the monitor you are looking at at a local store. That way you could get a better visual representation of the difference.

Almost all games these days support the ultrawide ratio, but it is up to your hardware's specs. I'd say go for either 1080 or 1440 UW.

This is all dependent on what you do with your system.

For me personally, I went from a 1080P panel to a 1440P panel because I needed more vertical space when I was programming.

There was also a side benefit of playing games at a higher resolution, but that wasn't the main justification.

I also want to go to 1440P ultrawide, but there is no single benefit besides the "because I can" factor.

I'm a triple monitor gamer. If you ask me if more screen space is better for gaming, I'd say "f#ck yes!". Seeing more of the action is much better than looking straight the whole time.

If it's purely for gaming, I can't justify it unless I had money to kill.  And if I do have money to kill, ultrawide would be my go-to option.

1080P is still a fine resolution to game at.

To me, the only time you should consider a monitor upgrade is when you find yourself needing more space to do work to be ever so slightly more efficient.

for gaming not all games fully support 21:9 but as almost all monitors are 2560p nowadays they prob will soon. been using a 1080p ultrawide for a long time now and its totally your choice. might look sharper with 1440p

Might?

Its a 100% night and day difference in sharpness with 1080p / 1440p.

I would NOT buy 1080p anymore. At least 1440p. Be it 2560 x 1440 or the 21:9 3440x1440.

Your Monitor will remain for years, even after you upgraded your Gaming GPU like 2-3 times.

Don't lower your new Monitor just because of the GPU you have Today. Just reduce Settings, and you get higher fps. easy.

1440p + High > 1080p + Ultra.
