Which CPU is better

I am planning on going mild 1080p gaming on max settings.

 

which CPU would be the best:

idk for sure, but i would still go for the quad core (the i5) , so you can still multitask

The i5 7400. An entry level i5 will be better than any i3.

Core count doesn't affect the number of programs you can run. The kernel already sitches the program on the cpu hundreds of times a second.

ghz doesnt mean anything, you have to look at other specs of the cpu like cache etc

But you have more cores on the o5 and for most use some the extra cores are better than the clock speed and hyperthreading

Yes it does here. Same cpu archetype so 50 percent more frequency and you have 50 percent more performance. Cache makes a very small difference.

i just saw some benchmarks, and the i3 had better single core perfomance but you only have 2 of them, and for gaming the quad core is better for sure

the i3 has more cache per core and higher clock speed so some applications would be better on the i3, however for games have a look at this video that shows the extra cores in the i5 makes it much better for gaming
