A lithium battery will typically last for  up to 1000 charges from fully discharged to fully charged. Over that number, the battery's probably going to have about half the original charge and lost charge fast...

You can increase the life of the battery (and have it hold more energy for a longer time) if you start charging the phone when there's still 10-25% of charge still in the phone. You can't control the maximum charge easily, that's set by the internal charge "processor" ,,, but most phones usually stop charging at around 95-98% of the battery maximum.

Numbers for a typical 18650 battery (like the ones used in the Tesla battery banks or laptops) :

* over 40 000 charge/discharge cycles when going from 30% to 70% only.

* over 35 000 charge/discharge cycles from 20% to 80%;

* 28 000 cycles from 10% to 90%;

* 15 000 cycles from 8% to 92%,

* 7500 cycles from 6% to 94%,

... and the capacity reduction goes faster and faster, finally reaching 500 cycles when recharging from 0% to 100%.
