I’m new to this site so hello to all.

It has been many years since I built my first computer so your patients is very much appreciated.

Since it is over 9 years old and now rivals the speed of a glacier the time has come to retire my old Dell Dimension 8400 running Windows XP. Farewell old friend you have served me well.

I wanted to build something that would suit my current needs but leave room for upgrading down the road should the need arise and have budgeted $1,500.00 for this purpose. The build will be primarily for doing light graphics work, photo editing and the occasional video edit.

Since you all have much more experience then I in this area I would like some advice on the build list I have come up with before I commit to buying.

Now I know this is like opening a can of worms and everyone will have their favorites, but what am I’m looking for are any areas where I may have missed  with regard to components chosen given the intended use for this build. This is what I have come up with.

Quiet, good looking, and compact. PSU and GPU fans should turn off at idle, for further silence you could get a Cryorig C7 for a cheap, small and quiet CPU cooler. Much better graphics than the 1050 Ti, but can be downgraded if you don't need the power. Black/silver theme. :D

Just want to say to all that commented especially GTX1060=value, Brooksie359 and DxXterlab97 I really appreciate you taking the time to respond. I'm sure I will have many more questions as I start the build.

Thanks again.

You seem to be building a PC just for general use, some video/photo editing, and absolutely no gaming?  Is this right?

Your budget seems high for this purpose, but I understand you are way overdue for an upgrade.

The Samsung 850 Pro is priced at a premium and you will not see a difference between it and the 850 EVO.  Same goes for the Black WD drive, a Blue will do the job well.

Pick the GPU you want:

The reason I chose the 850 pro over the EVO was double the warranty and higher MTBF, basically same reasoning for the WD black drive. I don't mind spending a little more on components that are a more robust and carry a better warranty.

It may be used for general purpose now but I doubt that will remain the case in the long run. You have to understand my general use description was mainly based on the current constraints of a 9 yo system. I'm sure after the build it will be utilized in a much more appropriate manner.
