Sooo i'm going to upgrade from my fx-6300 to an i7. Now im planing on gaming cpu intensive titles such as Attila, Rome2, Warhamer and so on, but i do plan to start learning video editing, zbrush etc etc so i was wondering what you guys would advise me to get, the cheaper 6700 or the new 7700.

Wait for Ryzen, Be patient for just a few more weeks. Then you will have more options and most likely see price drops. But if you cannot wait go for the 7700 or 7700k. Kaby Lakes single threaded performance is very good. Ive seen overclocked 7700k cpus have over a 100 point lead over the 4790k in cinebench single threaded. Also the Z2** platform has quite a few new features which will make your PC last longer.

Agree with the rest but this. Z270 has like 4 extra PCI-E lanes, Optane (who gives a flying fuck about optane, let's be honest here) and a DRM module on board (wow, you can watch 4K Netflix.. but only in Microsoft fucking Edge). Not futureproof.

Also 7700K runs hot for some people apparently. And delidding does so much to temps.

idk

at this point wait for AMDs Ryzen CPUs to launch and get benchmarked, if you have to pick one of those i have to ask, the locked SKUs or the unlocked ones?

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Ill be going for a locked SKUE, no money for a K edition sadly...

You cant spend 40 more bucks on a k cpu?

Let me put it this way if you spend a little more on a k cpu and z chipset motherboard you will be able to overclock in the future and give your pc a much longer life. Im talking 3-4 years of life here. Think of it as a long term investment.

Yea that DRM thing is quite sad but if optane turnes out to be what intel is advertising its going to be big.
