Depends on the game, but if it's a decent AM3 Phenom it should be okay. Especially if you can put a nice OC on it.

What I mean by 'depends' on the game, is that some games utilize more than 4 cores, these will run better than others.

An X6 will most likely get rid of most of the problem. In more single threaded games it might bottleneck but for the most part it won't.

I just played BF1 and it's not running really well. Will run okey with a Phenom X6? OR a X4 is okey? Should i overclock my Athlon X3? Thank you!

As others said 1050 doesn't needs that much more than those Athlons or Phenoms...but it does needs more. At least if you want modern shit like GTA V if you're ok with older titles I'll do fine.

You could always try overclocking your Athlon, if you have the right cooling of course. But a Phenom X6 has twice the threads and a bit better single core performance.

If you can score a Phenom X6 (or X4 for that matter) for cheap, you should totally go for it.

I see, so an X6 will be okey to run BF1 and GTA V?

Thanks again for the answer, and your help. I see i will try to get an X6 if not an X4. Can you recommend a good overclocking guide for AMD? I never overclocked a CPU. I did overclocked a GPU. Thank you!

yup a big bottleneck depending on the game wait for ryzen.

Because someone with a GTX 1050 and Athlon that's asking about a Phenom X6 is totally in the market for a Ryzen platform.

For fucks sake, I'm all for waiting for Ryzen in the right circumstances but did you even think before writing that comment?

It's really pretty much the same for most CPUs. Here's a general guide. Only thing is don't use prime 95, use something like aida 64 or asus realbench instead.

my thinking ability is above your basic manner ability that's for sure. ryzen is not released yet, my advice is to hold off before purchasing.

The OP was asking about a $60 CPU. You're bringing up an upgrade that will cost him upwards of $300. Use your brain.

well use some common sense and learn some basic manners, personal attacks won't solve your petty issues. i was suggesting OP wait and see what's in store.
