You have it so why don't you answer it yourself? Are you happy with it? Does the card run games good for you?

the 290 is a good card still, you can do a good crossfire setup if you need more power or switch to a rx 480.

eh... 290 to 480 is not worth it. Yes it will perform marginally better but not worth the price, even after getting $140 for the 290. Lower if it is a reference card. 290 upgrade at minimum is 1070 or hold out for Vega. Only reason that a 480 COULD be considered is if the OP possibly wants to play 1440p

Is the r9290 still a great card to have

If you're worried about temps and never replaced the paste try that, otherwise undervolt the card

performance wise it's still going to be solid for 1080p high-ultra gaming at 60hz

isn't worth upgrading to a 480 unless you've got a buyer lined up before hand, a 480 has probably half the power draw under load

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?
