is this a good gpu upgrade?

i am using an r7 250 in my system currently and i was wondering if the radeon hd 7790 was a good upgrade. i found one on ebay for $40 and am hoping that it is a good upgrade.

this is $40. a 1050ti is $200. what do you mean $40 might not be worth it? i cant find anything cheaper that might be worth it on ebay. maybe craigslist?

Instead of getting something that's already outdated you might as well save up and get something current gen

The GTX 1050ti and HD 7790 are in completely different leagues.

 

Looking up the HD 7790, $40 is a fair price, that said I don't know what other cards it would compete with and how much they cost.

im not doing any serious gaming. Im fine with 30 fps. Its just when i play something like far cry 3 blood dragon i get like 10-20 sometimes, or when i want to play minecraft with shaders i cant because my graphics card isnt good enough.

A GTX 1050 or GTX 950 would work.  I know that's more than you wanted to spend, but you just need more than that.

how much better is it than the radeon hd 7790 and the r7 250. also for that price i can also get a gtx 750 ti. is the 750 ti better? i know the xfx one looks better lol. Also a thing about power. I only have 2 6 pin power adapters. i dont have an 8 pin power cable on my power supply. so thats a thing

The 7790 is pretty close to the 750ti only slightly beating it. but the other two beat is by a lot.

so the 750ti is the same performance as the 7790. so my two options are get something that will get the job done, or spend a little bit more and get something good. like the xfx card. if i had a card that looked that good it would make me want to get a tempered glass case and go crazy  right now i have a full tower case. with no side panel  and a xeon cpu

For some reason, the 750 Ti didn't drop in price along with the 950 when the 10 series was released, but the 950 outperforms it for the same price.  I say get a 950.

the 950 is $100 though. I was hoping initially to not spend much more than $60

That's not really true.  And getting so many notifications for no reason is making me to not want to reply at all.

 

As I said, you should get some thing better, even if it means waiting a little while you save up.  You'll get a few more years out of it if you don't buy the bare minimum.  It's an investment.

No, the 750 Ti is equal to the 7850.  And the 950 is better than the 750 Ti.

The price on the 7790 is ok.  You'll see a pretty good improvement, but it'll struggle in newer games that use more vRAM.  

 

If you want newer AAA titles to be playable you really want to be in the $80 range at least (a used 7870 or 660 ti).

I wouldn't do it.  Bitcoin mining is some pretty intensive stuff.
