Good day. I've been wanting to buy a PS4 lately, and I've been wondering whether i should get a PS4 or the PS4 Pro, and whether the Pro is worth the extra money spent.

My setup isn't necessarily 4K res, since I will probably buy a monitor when i grab a PS4.

edit: let's assume i stay 1080p for now

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

Yeah dont go 4k yet. We haven't made gpus/cpus/apus powerful enough yet to be good at 4k so unless you have a 4k monitor and watch 4k videos a lot then don't get the ps4 pro

so the only deciding factor is what res I'll be using it on?

That's a lie, the PS4 pro has a GPU that's equivalent to a RX480 but is clocked lower...

A RX470 is more than powerful enough to play games at 4K but just at lower settings like low and medium for dem sweet 60fps (or 45 fps in dem extra demanding titles) so...ya know :P

Due to the pricing of the PS4, I think I'm gonna vote PS4 :P

Looking at my signature are we now? Well too bad there's nothing here...

Yeah but its not an rx 470... Also lots of games won't play at 4k, they will upscale, which is different...

🙂

It's a 950~MHz clocked RX480 with a potato CPU...what did you expect? :D

i understand that the GPU is upgraded in the pro version

but assuming 1080p, will there be significant difference?
i watched a couple DF's videos and the difference is minor, with the PS4 stuttering at times

Yep, it is indeed upgraded however if you're going to be using a 1080p display then no, it's not worth the price difference :)

so in conclusion: the only deciding factor is the resolution i'll be using it on

no other deciding factors?

PS4 Pro games may have a better detail mode. FFXV for instance has a two detail settings. There's a comparison on http://www.dualshockers.com/2016/11/11/final-fantasy-xv-demo-ps4-pro-quality-frame-rate-graphics-settings-screenshot-comparison/. But that's about it.

However if you don't have a 4K TV, then don't get a PS4 Pro. I don't believe the console will render natively at 1080p if you set it to that resolution.
