So I've been playing with speed fan today and I was wondering. Is it better to sync the fan speed with the CPU itself? Or the core temps? My CPU stays around 37 degrees *C but my cores go well up into the 50s.

Also able to sync my bottom fan, which is the new Corsair ML120, with the GPU temps. But anyway, is it better to sync 2 120mm with core temps, or CPU temp? Is it a matter of which one I want cooled more?

I would go with cores if the CPU temps are staying that much lower then it's likely an error

I just HWMonitor and it's showing a different reading than what SpeedFan is showing. It looks like a software error to me. So go with core temp fan sync then?

either something is reporting the wrong temperature or reading the wrong temperature like the software or the sensor its self.  Plus there aren't many cpu's that run at 37c full load

That's pretty odd isn't for Speed fan to show the CPU and the core at different temps? Is there a way to fix that?

How do I check? Speed Fan is reporting one thing, and HWMonitor is giving me a more correct reading.

HWmonitor is more likely to be correct in my experience, I used to use speedfan a lot and there were always some sensors that didn't read/report correctly.  Something about the differences between motherboards and I don't think that speedfan really officially support most motherboards.

That's a shame because I do like using it since Asus hasn't update IA Suite 3 since windows 7 and now 10. So it was my only other best option. At least it's reading the core right which is fine because it doesn't make sense for the 2 top fans being useless not doing what I put them there to do. xD

it will work with most motherboards, especially asus it seems.  It's really just the sensors and some of the other features that can be buggy or not work 100% correct.  Still a great piece of software though!  Using the cores shouldn't have any negative effect other than you'll have to create a fan curve for each core

I based both fans on core 1 since it changes temps at the same time as the other cores do. That should be ok right?

That's fine. There usually isn't much of a difference in temps between the cores.

There's also the option to sync fan speeds to multiple temps. I would personally sync exhaust fans to cpu and gpu temps and leave intakes at a set speed.

If you ever need help with a build, read the following before posting: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/3061-build-plan-thread-recommendations-please-read-before-posting/
