Windows XP download?

LTSU

I found my old laptop (that haves broken hdd) and I was thinking about restoring it back to it's original condition. My only problem is that I don't have windows xp installation disc for it. So, does anyone know where I could download windows xp home edition (32bit)? I've tried to find some place to download it from but all downloads that I can find and that actually work are all windows xp pro... Also I'd prefer it to be in finnish but english version would do just as well :).

I have a couple install disks (SP2) lying around, is there a way to transfer the files over the internet?

the only reason I would ever install an old os was for a retro gaming box.

If it's just as a hobby, I'm sure plenty of people can hook you up. But if you actually plan on using that laptop, you're obviously better off with a Linux distro anyways

I'm not planning really using it. I tried running linux on it but because the laptop is so old, it can't really even do any simple tasks..

I think that might be ok but I think it would be more reliable to image the disk to a iso file and upload it.

Just use ImgBurn to convert the folder to an ISO and you should be good to go.

Just be sure you watch out for all the "Freeware" bs when you install ImgBurn as it'll ask you to install other things as well, just check the no boxes and proceed.

I found many Home Edition ISOs from a quick Google search. The place I usually download ISOs from is down ATM, otherwise I'd give you a link.

The IP keeps changing, but I found it again for you: http://188.138.9.242/

It's an archive of supposedly clean unmodified ISO files taken from MSDN/TechNet.

You'll want to of course verify they're unmodified by checking their SHA1 hashes against Microsoft's official hashes.

And of course, you'll need an unused license key in order to install and activate the ISO.

Keep in mind that if your laptop uses an OEM key, this retail ISO may not work.

A while ago (back when it was still hosted at 91.121.154.109) I verified a couple of the Win7 ISO files from that directory myself, and those did match the hashes that were posted on technet.  Also, people have mentioned that Microsoft support will verify that the IP address belongs to Microsoft.

Still, doing a hash check is always a good idea, if only to verify that nothing went wrong during the download.

Unfortunately that directory only has the Home edition in Russian, not in English. (the language is in the first 2 characters of the filename)

I have an old .iso of XP Home x86 with SP2 and the regular installer to upgrade that to SP3, but with my upload speed it'll take a while to put it online.

Still, I don't mind doing so if you have time.
