As you may know, the noctua nh d14 performs wonderfully but is ugly as sin.  I would like to replace the fans, but I'm not sure about compatibility in regards to the middle fan. Which noctua fan is best, or should I just wrap the outside in the carbon fibre I'm getting and run an led strip over it?

Watching with interest as I'm about to have the same problem. Got a D14 yesterday and about to install it shortly, but the fans aren't staying as they are longer term. I had a suggestion in another thread about painting it, but it is more work than I can be bothered with.

Any 120mm will do.

I have two Noctua IPPC 120mm fans with the white chromax corners, and it looks great :)

Self adhesive carbon fibre is cheap on amazon, so I'm thinking about putting that over the metal and the middle fan, and running an rgb strip over the middle fan

The middle fan, not the side ones

I replaced both without problems, both fans use 120mm mounting holes.

Yeah I bought the D14 recently as well, I also looked in to this and as long as the fans you're looking for are 120mm you're fine.

The middle fan is a 140mm with 120mm mounting holes, so basically the same!

I would recommend getting black noctua fans with chromax plugs to make them fit your rig accordingly and choosing the correct model depending on if you want silence or performace. I'm using some old standard corsair fans that came with the H100i and they are LOUD af, will be getting some silent noctua fans soon.

They use the same mounting clips and the fin towers are identical.

Any fan with open standard 120mm mounting holes with work fine.

That being said, the included fans are optimized to work well with the heatsink and vice-versa. If acoustics aren't that important to you, then go right ahead with swapping fans.
