I've decided to finally bite the bullet and retire my 2500k.  I will sell it as well as my mobo on ebay.

Anyway, I'll be using my current case, PSU, GPU, and peripherals.  So basically I need a CPU, motherboard, and RAM.  I will be getting the unlocked Kaby Lake i5.  Does anyone have any recommendations where I should by my parts from.  I live in the US and am close to Fry's Electronics and Microcenter.

I really need help with determining the mobo.  I do want to overclock but don't want to spend a premium on high overclocking potential so the board doesn't need to be too rugged.  Will my current AIO 2500k cooler fit the new setup, or no?

This PC will be used for mainly 3440x1440 100Hz gaming (don't need the video card).  And I want to make sure that I'll be able to boot from an NVME drive once I get one.  Right now I just have a Sata 3 SSD.

Any advice would be REALLY appreciated.

EDIT: I may want to SLI in the future

Are those #'s fps, or frametimes?  If frametimes, does that really matter?  I don't know much about frametimes

Smooth frametimes = less stutters, this is only in the current generation of games (GTAV, BF1, RotTR) newer games are going to demand more. The problem with average FPS (we are accustomed to seeing in reviews) is that it doesn't tell the whole story. I'm like a parrot with this, I should change my signature...... i5 is fine at the moment, but I wouldn't recommend anyone to build a new rig with an i5 if they can stretch to an i7. A lot of the time people will add an i5 and an AIO cooler when an i7 + air will offer more and an AIO cooler could be added later when they have the money, swapping in an i7 for the i5 isn't so cost effective

wow, microcenter. you're lucky. I have to travel at least an hour and a half in 2 different directions to get to the 2 that are close to me...... microcenter has good deals on combos a lot. look at their add for your local store and be prepared before you walk in the door. you should also find in store specials...... so yes, if walking in, 1 vote for microcenter.

I would buy an i7 if buying now. those extra threads are coming in handy.. ( ya'll can save the games don't need banter ).

a TB SSD. don't waste your time on "storage" drives./

Ok after some contemplating I'm going to spread out my expenses a bit.  I'm going to by the RAM and an M.2 drive now and wait and see how Ryzen does in real world tests and to see how it affects Intel's prices.
