Music Software

Simply put, I am searching for a basic free piece of software that will allow me to do recordings of music for only 5 to 8 seconds, and save to my pc. Nothing fancy, just a basic program if anyone knows of something. I tried searching and failed finding something that would actually work. Any and all replies are always appreciated. tyty

Audacity has a build-in recording tool, but I never used it. I personally use Quick Time on macOS but the Windows version is probably much more limited. VLC can probably do recordings too with some add-ons as I can "read" an audio input but not record natively.

You mean like windows audio recorder?

Where is the audio coming from? Your PC?

He meant do you use desktop sounds, mic or some other connected device. For desktop audio Audacity is best solution.
