Yes. You might want to consider 1440p 144hz instead for gaming though. You can't get 60fps in most games maxed out unless you have a Titan XP.

That really depends on your needs, and on your PC.

A 4k screen will demand a lot of the hardware to be able to run games smoothly.

A 144hz screen on the other hand will only be better than a 60hz screen if your hardware is actually able to run the games at higher fps. On the other hand, running slower than 144hz won't really make a game unplayable. Running any significant amount less than 60fps will, even if the image is crystal sharp.

I am no experienced gamer, and only recently got a 1440p 144hz screen. I have never seen a 4k screen.

I do believe that 4k screens are slightly more expensive, but mainly in the ballpark.

If I buy a 4K monitor which can play games in 4k 60 fps, can I also play games on 1080p or 1440p at higher fps?

Some Tvs have this option 1080p 120hz and 4k 60hz. I have a vizio with this option  never heard of a moinitor having this. Maybe it will overclock better at 1080p? and you can get like 70s

I'm finding this unlikely as most TVs don't actually take inputs higher than 60Hz. It may claim 120Hz or something on the box, but that's just for the whole motion clarity crap.

Also HDMI until 2.1 isn't capable of anything higher than 60Hz anyway. The 1080p 120Hz spec is for 3D only.

Most Tvs Dont Accept higher then 60hz But Some Do accept 120hz 1080p  not motion crap some 4k Tvs have this features and older 3d Tvs had this aswell due as if it was 3D it was hardware wise capable of it not all would allow the input though either.  I remember the sony 3d tv for playstation was able to accpet 120hz from a PC

HDMI can defiently go past 60hz  Doesnt VR typically use HDMI ? i believe HDMI 2.0 not .1 can even do 4k 60hz so it has the bandwidth for 1080p 120hz +

Quick google yep. 2.0 and 2.1 can do 120hz 1080p but there was a limit with 1.3 or 1.4 that couldnt

It may have the bandwidth to do so but there are clearly defined specifications that HDMI enabled devices must adhere to, and most TV manufacturers don't care to do anymore than that because why bother.

Also I mentioned earlier that yes, HDMI can support 1080p 120Hz, but it's usually for 3D only.

This site reviews many tvs http://www.rtings.com/  there are still enough that if your looking for this feature it isnt hard to find.

Quickly looking these 3 series of current running tvs have 120hz in most sizes available. my current living room Tv is a 60" M 2015 series that accepts 120hz at 1080p 60hz at 4k

If you take a look at what im showing  you from that site they are crazyy in depth with there reviews and details. if you scroll down kinda far it gives input its not the Fake BS Refresh Rates. i have a tv that says 480hz that only accepts 60hz i understand the "Fake" refresh rate. There are legit 4k tvs that offer 120hz at 1080p  and its true native 120hz. i personally own one that does and another that doesnt

Chart on that site looks like this.   Importantly when shopping if it will be used as a moinitor is 4k 60hz 4;4;4 chroma.  and as you see the 50" of this specific model  cant do 120hz

Update 01/23/2017: Retested with the newest firmware (3.0.12.2) and now the Vizio P Series 2016 can now display the chroma subsampling correctly when set in the 'Computer' picture mode. Note that it can also correctly display chroma subsampling at 1080p @ 120Hz

As a owner of 4K screens, it's all personal preference. I also have used a 1080p 120hz monitor in the past, while it was nice for gaming. I prefer my 4K 60hz displays, simply because of the desktop space. I prefer resolution over higher refresh rate as I'm not a competitive gamer, so I like having a higher resolution. Anyway I would recommend a 1440p 144hz monitor because it's a really good balance between resolution and high refresh rate gaming. Plus, hardware can handle 1440p easier than 4K at the moment.

Yup you're right. Thanks. Btw I don't have a PC yet. I'm still stuck with an Xbox 360, white one. And it's jtaged so you can't play online games (actually, you can but it's a really complicated) So you can imagine my condition
