MAXIMUS IX CODE Error with new memory?

Sooo I got this Maximus IX Code and 7700K with 2x 2*16GB Avexir Core White RAM (64GB Total)

And it won't POST with more than 1 RAM.

I could only slot in the RAM in the 2nd slot from the left to get it to POST.

Error codes are moving from CC to 55 or 49.

Idk what is happening.

What I've checked:

+ Updated BIOS to 0701

+ RAM tested on another Z170 system and it's fine

With only one stick installed, go into BIOS and manually increase your DRAM voltage to 1.35v and reboot.  Once you've rebooted, go back into BIOS and confirm that your DRAM voltage is at 1.35v and then shut down.  Install the other sticks and attempt to boot.

You've tried the RAM/CPU combo in another MB? You didn't specify that it was the 7700k you used in the Z170 board.

What speed sticks do you have?

2400MHz, it was advertised as PC19200 tho.

Btw, it states that it uses 1.2v, is that okay?

The RAM got a bit hotter after the last run on 1.35v.

Yeah, you only inputted 1.35 for testing.  It'll do 1.35v just fine all day long, but you have no intentions of saying there.

Your CPU should have no problems running two of those sticks in dual channel.  Either the quality of the memory pairing (binning) sucks or your CPUs IMC is a horrible example.  You can try adding some additional VCCIO voltage to help your CPUs IMC out. If the memory set is the issue, it might not be worth trying too hard.  You may just want to RMA it.

Do you have another set of DDR4?  You mentioned that you tested that memory in another system, so borrow the memory from that setup and test it on the board that you are trying to get working.  That'll help determine if it's a CPU IMC issue, which I doubt, or a memory issue.

The issue is, it has exactly same RAM.

I'll try the VCCIO.

-snip-

Good news and bad news.

Good news first:

I'm just curious af about this, so I removed everything from its place.

Seems like I overtightened my CPU waterblock, because it really is a pain to remove one of its screws.

Removed the paste and reapplied, put everything back together, and boom it worked out of nowhere.

Bad news is:

Now I'm scared since my thoughts are like this:

Overtightened screw may have screwed the whole thing.

Will there be any issues in the future?

I haven't touched the VCCIO yet, and have dropped the RAM's voltage back to 1.2v

Yeah, so smashing the CPU down into the socket with too much clamping for will definitely cause memory issues.  The good news is that it's highly unlikely that you permanently damaged anything if it works now.  Congrats on fixing it!

I've done this before, you overtighten shit and it negatively affects traces on the board.  I was going to blame the board anyways since it's pretty much 0 possibility for the cpu to be the issue and testing the memory in another system.

Random fun fact, I'm parting together my own waterblock mounting springs and screws and shit aiming for the maximum clamping force the socket allows (240 lbs of force).  Good luck everyone!

curious statement. how much pressure SHOULD one place on the socket? light pressure?

With your cooler, all you need to do is screw it down until it's snug.  No need to torque it down too much at all.  You've got to be almost doing it on purpose to over tighten.  I never use screwdrivers to tighten waterblocks unless I know I need the extra clamping force for a specific reason.

Anyway thanks for assisting me through this. Really frustrating. Wouldn't go that far without your assistance LOL

I used to go full force with screws on a PC, this is the first time shit happens to me from an overtightened screw. I won't blame anyone for this, I think.

Right now I only screw it a few times.

So yes, medium light pressure.

But I don't know the right amount that should be done.

L640F750 is your batch number.  It's on the bottom right corner of the label as well as the bottom of your CPU IHS.

The CPU's are made in batches.  You know, a lot cut from one wafer?

Right now L639Fxxx and L639Gxxx are producing some very high clock speeds.  Of course there are CPUs that aren't as good within those batches so luck of the draw still applies, but the highest clocks have come from those batches.  Why don't you go ahead and change that by getting a high overclock.  :D  Good luck man.

Yes, seen them on a video. Never came to their factories lol

I just missed a number I think! It's L640 against L639.

I've tried pulling out 5.2GHz at 1.25v but my watercooling setup wasn't good enough! :(

Or it is just my room temperature. Anyways, my room temperature sits at around 30-32 degree celcius, so at 5.2GHz and under load it reaches 75-80 degree celcius.

To be honest, you were a bit optimistic in that voltage.  Chances are you'll need quite a bit more than 1.25v to run 5.2 stable.  If 1.25 is already pushing the limits of your cooling capabilities, you may want to shoot for a 5 to 5.1 overclock.  Don't forget to work on some CPU cache OC after that.

Yes it was too optimistic. It started to crash after ~30 mins of usage. But after seeing my cooling capabilities I opted to go down to 4.9 with 1.25v.

Runs pretty stable until I decided to add more sticks and it boom doesn't work.
