Which one is worth it? $464 CAD or $711 CAD?

rasesh

Hey guys I have come down to 2 monitor's which I am currently interested in & both are currently on sale.

One is a LG 34UM58-P which costs $464 CAD & the other one is a LG 34UM88C-P which is $711 CAD.

LG 34UM58-P [2560x1080] - $464 CAD:

http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX61637

LG 34UM88C-P [3440x1440] - $711 CAD:

http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX63051

My intention with this monitor:

1) I mainly use monitor for work with text so Microsoft word/excel/power point etc .. is major for me.

2) I surf the web a-lot

3) I also use it for video's/music/movies/shows

A) Which one at the moment is worth the money for my purposes?

B) Is it worth the extra $247 CAD more for the LG 34UM88C-P?

C) Should I spend the extra $147 for a 4yr IPR replacement plan for either?

D) What do you think about the re-sale value of either of these monitor's in the long run? Let's say 2-3yrs from now. Which one would wield me back more money back then the other?  Remember that the 1440p costs more despite it might wield back more.

Thanks!

A. The 2560x1080p monitor should be sufficient for you.

B. Personally, I think no.

Well the biggest difference between the two is that the cheaper one is 1080p, and the more pricey monitor rocks 1440p. In all honesty, for general use either of these are fine. But I can say from personal experience you will definitely notice the sharper image on the 34UM88C-P. But you really need to ask yourself if you're willing to spend the extra 250 bucks for that. Honestly if I were you I would just go for the 1080p monitor, since gaming is not a priority and it won`t make a massive difference for the type of stuff you plan on using it for. But if you have the extra money and want that sharper image go for the 34UM88C-P. Up to you bud!

And, I would never bother with a warranty on a monitor. You are so unlikely to ever break it or for there to be any sort of issue whatsoever. It just feels pointless on monitors.

C) It's like if anything goes wrong they either fix it or they give a new one.

The reason the warranty appealed to me is because I was thinking about dead pixels in these massive monitor sizes that i read often have issues regarding that.

They told me that the 4yr IPR plan basically means they either fix it or they replace it with a new one.

make sure the agreement says "NEW"... and not "REPLACEMENT", because at the end of the day it doesn't matter what the employee TOLD you, it matters what's on the piece of paper you bought.

I'd definitely pay the extra for the larger monitor, I've used 27" 1080p displays and personally I think they look horrible.

It'd only be worse with a larger display.

As for the IPR, it's up to you. If you have a lot of issues with electronics, it might be worth it for you.

I'm aware.

However a 34" 21:9 is the same height as a 27" 16:9.

So you meant go for 1440p.

Okay I see.

Exactly. Plus, if you're main uses are Excel and browsing, the extra space will be a delight.

Especially when it comes to Excel cells.
