Looking for lightweight laptop Budget $1500 AUD

Hi all, first post on this glorious forum,

 

I am looking for a laptop that is quite light, easy to take around with me. I would like to be able to do web design, maybe open up unity and do some other minor stuff. not really looking to game on it. At least not games that I'd rather play on my desktop anyway. It will be more of a convenient way to do work for me wherever I go. 

 

I am in Australia so aud would be preferred :)

 

I would prefer ssd over hdd for speed.

its better to get a gamin pc and a laptop as your pc build will be so much cheaper u can buy a laptop with left overs

then u only need like a £700 laptop if u want a graphics card ie a 960 or 1050 if your ok with low settings 1080p unless u want to spend the full 1550 that is

Well, the biggest thing for me is that I really like the keyboards on the thinkpad range, they have pretty deep travel and are satisfying to type on.

You can also get one for as little as 900 AUD

Some models have fingerprint scanners

Milspec durability.

Upgradable to 32GB of ram

Fairly light at 1.4KG

Has intel WiFi

2cm thick

Long battery life (Lenovo claims 11 hrs but expect 8)

 

Some disadvantages are:

Made of plastic, not carbon fibre like X1 Carbon

SSD is SATA

@ibabyslapper I really like the 2 cm thick and lightweight at 1.4kg, If I can find the same thing not in plastic that would be great, otherwise this is a good contender.

 

There is also a sale on lenovos website atm for the x1 for $1650 aud. I think I am sold on that.

Yeah, if you can fit an X1 Carbon in your budget I'd say go for it. It's lighter and has a Carbon fibre chasis.

Just keep in mind that the RAM is soldered on the X1s and therefore are not upgradable.

 

I have a X230, which is an older model from the X line, and it's been around the world in my backpack, I've dropped it accidentally, I've smashed it in anger, spilt coffee on it, upgraded it with an SSD and more RAM, typed long essays on it, and it's never missed a beat.

Also, the red nipple mouse is something you can't do without after getting used to it.
