Two events have occurred in my life recently;

- I've started a new job where I can listen to music all day

- I bought a pair of the Sennheiser Momentum (over ear) headphones

Music all day is great, but I don't think the company would let me install a dedicated sound card in the PC I use, and I don't want to miss out on the superior audio quality offered by the Momentums.

In order to get the most out of these new headphones, what would my best solution be? Is this a situation best solved by a DAC?

The PC is running Ubuntu - not sure if that makes any difference.

I really don't know much about audio equipment, but I know I love how the Sennheiser Momentums sound. Any advice would be much appreciated :)

Get a really nice DAC is what i'm thinking. Couldn't help you out on what's nice as i'm not an AudioPhile, I hear Mayflower DAC's are nice though. Also ask them it's worth a shot they may let you install a dedicated sound card. I honestly don't see why they wouldn't if you paid for it and installed it.

everything has to be standardized in a business most of the time unless u bring your own machine. they dont like extra things in their pc's.

plus soundcards arent even a good way to go.external>internal

I think any USB DAC should be able to work. I know that the Asus Xonar U3 work with Linux, although it is not as good as some other options. Have you tried the onboard sound? My bhest guess would be that it would sound fine.

Also +1 for awesome band and awesome album.

I'll start with what I liked. As soon as I plugged this thing into my computer, it was able to recognize it right away without the need to install drivers (I am using Ubuntu on my desktop). I simply had to go into the sound settings and select the e10 as analog output. I popped my DT770 Pros into the e10 j

found a post on german ubuntu forum by some guy saying that it does work in Linux. However he had to disable onboard audio to get it working

Looks like there should be no problems in games either, just no hardware acceleration. Anyway, here's the article i was

what's wrong with the momentums? They sound alright to me.

They look extremely uncomfortable, especially if you are wearing them all day. I can't comment on the SQ, but I wouldn't invest an amp/DAC for portable headphones.

Maybe you should start extrapolating on your standard copy-paste replies.

Thanks for the replies everybody!

I will use on-board audio for now, then I'll certainly look into that FiiO e10 DAC when I next get paid - If it doesn't offer much improvement then I can always return it :)

As far as the Momentums go, I find them very comfortable (I have quite a large head) and they also fill the purpose of replacing my semi-broken (right angle jack busted, but buds are fine) Sennheiser CX680 IEMs for mobile use.
