I just finished building a budget system to allow my friend to play Overwatch and games like it with me. (Nothing too crazy)

Bought a new G4400 and installed an old Radeon 7770 (1gb) I had sitting around.

I'm only getting 40-50 FPS on medium (overwatch) with this setup, but I'm almost positive it's due to the CPU and not the GPU.

Should I return the CPU and upgrade to something like a i3 6100, would it be better to just save for a gtx 1050?

I'd think it's your GPU, more likely than not. I play Overwatch on a Core 2 Quad Q6600 pretty regularly with a 750 Ti, and can pull down 60+ FPS at ultra with AA turned off. Is your 7770 DDR3 or GDDR5?

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.

Does your frame-rate increase when you lower and raise settings?

Overwatch is insanely CPU intensive and can use up to 8 threads......

Most of the videos I'm seeing on YouTube are showing a consistent 60Hz with whatever GPU. I would say get a better system overall or buy a better GPU, like a 1050 Ti, for now.

It likes four logical cores, not physical. i3s see about 80Hz minimum to 140Hz average in Overwatch.

Yes! It is one of the few games that there is a difference between an i5 and an i7 (a big one in fact)

Step 1 : Get new BIOS on motherboard.

Step 2 : Sell the G4400

Step 3 : Get a G4560, its cheaper then the i3, on par with it, and has hyperthreading, again for 30 dollars cheaper

Step 4 : Get a GTX1050

How do i go about getting anew bios. Not something I've done before.

I don't think that other cpu is released yet. Seeing it for 75$ but none available

I would recommend taking the performance you have now and buying an i5 or i7 whenever the funds come in.
