Hello guys and girls,

I'm pretty new to this forum even I follow LTT for years.

But, to go on topic, here we go.

I am planning to upgrade my PC, my current specs :

 - GPU : ASUS GeForce GTX 660 DirectCU II OC 2GB

 - CPU : Intel Core i5 4570 @ 3.2GHz

 - RAM : 4GB RAM HyperX @ 1600mhz  1 module

 - MBD : Asus z87-c

 - PSU : Thermaltake Smart 630w

 - Case : Alexander Weiss F35

 - Monitor : Philips 226V-LA

- no SSD, but planning to buy.

I want good upgrade for my PC, thats used for gaming and python programming/learning and later wanna do some 3D modeling as hobby.

I am not forcing PC to play newest games on ultra settings and to see every shadow and pixel.

But I want to be able to play some of newest games like CoD,Battlefield, Watch Dogs or GTA smoothly.

Also my main game/relaxation is CS:GO and League of Legends, so one good 24+ inch monitor with 144hz would be nice, 27" with 144hz even better.

To mention, I might rebuild all in once, or piece by piece.

So nothing too much on budget, maybe 2000e +- cause of monitor.

Would like some suggestions.

Peace.

I'd just grab a GTX 1070, and you're good.

Good to know,

what about CPU upgrade to i7 6700k or RAM upgrade to 16gb at 3000mhz.

Is it worth?

Given what you're planning on playing/doing, your current CPU should be just fine.  If you really feel the need to have a CPU with 8 threads, I guess go for it, but I don't feel that it's necessarily worth the money.

If you're planning a full uprade

Apart from the 3d modeling I'd recomend either the last of the line 4790 on the z97 platform which you should be able to find some deals on, or a quad core on the z170 platform.

If you're serious about the 3d modeling however I might recommend a 5820k on the x99 platform.

For the graphics card check the compatibility of the main program you're using, If it can take advantage of CUDA then the 1070 mentioned above might be the only upgrade you need. If however it can't then I'd take a look at AMD's 480 graphics cards.

3D modeling not for serious, serious in term of being my fulltime job, but as hobby.

Serious for coding, yeah, freelancing and stuff. And part gaming.

So as above said, replace the RAM to start (IMO any 64bit OS requires at least 8GB to function properly) and replace the graphics card.

Your main sources of relaxation don't need anything major to be able to run well.

more ram and a better gpu cpu should be fine like a 1070 would be good and 8 or 16gb of ram

So far so good, RAM and GPU seems to be worst. And as I was planning, would change RAM first.

No one mentioned SSDs or monitors so far.

well that would be mostly for personal preference and should wait till you upgrade the ram and gpu

Depending on how much 3D Modeling the OP wants to do, he may want to upgrade his CPU. An i5 wont be enough for heavy modeling, he'd probably want at least an i7 6700k (or more preferably a 5820k) to handle the CPU intensive program.

Edit: I would also invest in a decent cooling system so you have more headway to potentially overclock down the line.

Depends on exactly what you want out of a SSD

Crucial for cost/GB

Intel 730 for reliability

Intel 750 (PCIe based) for speed.

I'm not a 144Mhz monitor user, so someone else will have to answer that question.

well are you going to try to do some overclocking or just want it quiet (or anything extra like lighting if you even care)

Since I dont have window, no RGB nor I care about that. Would like to be as quite as possible and never done OC.

Well, 3ds max and Maya, but as hobby just for me.

Well yeah obviously but I feel right now he's in bigger need of a beefy gpu.

You're going to want a cpu like the one i selected above for serious 3d modelling performance, arguably you don't need a 1080 but your budget easily allowed for it. (electronics are so cheap in USD damn it :P)

If it's just as a hobby for you, I would ask if you're satisfied with the speed at which you're currently using the programs? If so then there's no real need to upgrade the CPU I suppose, if not then upgrading your CPU will have the biggest effect on the speed and fluidity of your programs.

Well, to be honest, I am not.

xeon ( yes, you do want more than 4 cores ) and 16 ( min ) 32gigs of ram. doesn't even have to be fast ( 1333 ).

gpu........... gtx960/1060 or equive........... unless you do a complete platform swap........... which you don't need to do.

Planning to buy 16gb min for ram. Will see for others.

Hm, this seems pretty cool, maybe 1070 instead of 1080, and I think I dont need to change PSU but thanks, same goes for case. Monitor seems nice, but would like one with 144hz with 24 or 27" at top. Later I will think about 4k and more.

Thank you everyone.

And yes, would like some decent cooling systems and fans.

To meniont, currently my pc is making a lot of noise.

If you are ignoring cost of psu because you already have 1 and looking at cheaper monitor + 1070 then you could easily upgrade that hyper 212 cpu cooler on my build to an x62 kraken for good AIO water cooling.

Edit: also use some of that saving to add another 2x 8gb kit for 32GBDDR4 3000MHz RAM total.
