Hi all,

My girlfriend has a laptop which she used to run Sims 4 on quite happily before Windows 10 was released, she upgraded to Windows 10 (a few months ago) and since doing so found that Sims 4 no longer gets past the loading 'EA' screen. The game crashes but so does Windows. The mouse freezes and I am unable to open Task Manage through Ctrl Alt Del keys or switch to another programe with Alt Tab. The only way to get the laptop working again is to do a hard reset.

Initially I thought it was just because the computer had some sort of bug from all the bloatware so I decided it would be best to do a clean install of Windows 10, not only just to see if Sims would then work but to turn the laptop back into a functioning laptop it once was but after doing so found that it hasn't helped at all with regards to playing the Sims. The Sims still crashes almost immediately after launch.

I have looked online for tips and done the following:

  • Boot in Windows 7 and 8 compatibility mode and ran as administrator (no change)
  • Turned off Proxy serves (none were on anyway)
  • Repaired the game files and folders
  • Disabled any anti-virus
  • Alter command line arguments

I have also tried the following but found that these fixes didn't apply due to the OS and the game being a clean install:

  • Deleted all save files
  • Deleted lastCrash.txt and lastException.txt
  • Turned off Proxy serves
  • Disabled any anti-virus

If anyone can advise what the problem could be and how to resolve it I would be very grateful, as currently I have a sad girlfriend who can't play her favourite game.

Thanks in advance,

Matt

Sounds like a driver issue, check the sites of the manufacturers for Windows 10 ones. Alternatively revert to an older Windows.
