Hi, dear all

First time here, not sure if this is the right place to post an idea for video, if not please move it to the right place

I have been following ltt youtube channel for some while and just saw that you guys are looking for ideas for video, so here is a crazy and interesting idea:

use mercury to liquid cool cpu and gpu

mercury has thermal conductivity of 13 times of water, use mercury as the liquid cooling media should be much more effective than water

on the other hand, mercury has 13 times of density than that of water, so need to use thinner tubing and more powerful pump

also, need to make sure radiator has better thermal resistance and thermal conductivity, so the radiator need to be made of copper or some sort of metal material

besides, need to be extremely careful, it's mercury after all

if successfully deployed, should be expecting a temperature of less than 10C on load, maybe? :)

hope to hear from you guys, :D

Even with mercury the temperature on a liquid cooled system couldn't get below ambient temperature. Unless of course liquid nitrogen or whatever phase change stuff is used.  And I doubt they'd want to handle that much mercury as it is a huge health risk.

fact of the day : Mercury corrodes Aluminium very quickly (hell its not allowed on aircrafts, not even cargo only aircrafts and explosives make it up there)

the radiator or any component made with Aluminium would decompose and break apart almost instantaniously.

it would fail within minutes. and you'd get Mercury everywhere.

have a look at this :

here is something cooler and similar, but with Gallium. the reaction is similar :

extras :

Mercury is very expensive
Mercury creates big messes that must be dealt with caution and preferably with someone experienced in chemestry and toxic materials.

If you want to watch how weird liquids work in PC cooling, Jayz2Cents has done video about it. Maybe 2 even. None is yet to be better than the liquid solution currently used in water cooling loops.
