hi, does anyone know if laptop cooling pads make a difference for gaming laptops? I noticed my laptop is hitting around 80c or higher sometimes. The cooling system isn't great and I know if I use the laptop in prolonged use with 80c it will eventually break. Any ideas on good cooling solutions if pads don't really do much? If pads are able to reduce temps, what's a good pad to buy?

Um, you should repaste and repad the internals of the laptop.

oh LOL. Your laptop is a shit show of temps. Stock thermal paste is really bad. So repasting with tier 1 paste like Gelid GC or Liquid metal will help temps considerably.

Shows what you know then. On a forum of experienced laptop and desktop users, you complain about temps being "high" and negate what we say about how to fix that instead of spending MORE money on a cooler that literally does nothing to help?

You'll want some LM either CLU and TGC, and then get a Coolermaster U3 modded with Noctua fans to get maximum performance. That or just return the GL502 and get a better laptop.

as per your original question, a cooling pad wont make too much of a difference. maybe 1-2 degrees C if youre lucky. Tbh 80*C is within the safe limits of the components within the system. I really wouldnt worry too much. just keep it on hard, flat surfaces when running it hard and you wont have any reliability issues.

You can replace the thermal compound if you wish. Again it will only make a couple of degrees difference when youre gaming. nothing major

Oh you'd be mistaken. Especially on laptops, LM can drop a system near 20c. Can't do it on your blade though as it uses a bloody HDT heatsink. So rip.

I don't agree with your assessment new paste won't make the diff I need. I'm looking for like a 10-20c decrease in temps and I wanted to know if these coolers could do that before I purchase one. I'll spend MORE money if I want to because it's my money not yours so let me worry about that. I've pasted my desktop and laptop plenty to know that paste is not the issue here...

good to know, thank you. At least I won't have to bring a cooling pad with me everywhere.

Repasting with something of QUALITY makes massive difference to the stock crap they use when the machine is first built. If you honestly think otherwise, you're wrong. There have been numerous tests done and all of them show immense increases, more so on laptops than desktops.

idk, that Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut paste is really expensive. I'm seeing it for $40 for 5g on newegg. For that price I'll settle with 80c lol

I dont think you understand how LM works. 1g will do just fine. And please consult many many threads and youtube videos on how to apply LM because that shit is dangerous. Get some super88 tape to make a safety around the chips.

That liquid metal looks like a fun project, always just used arctic silver or whatever. I assume that repasting voids the warranty on pretty much any laptop?

What do you two suggest for new laptops then? I understand the thermal paste, but doesn't opening a new laptop instantly void any future warranty on the product? I was thinking on giving this a shot to my MSI; however, I've got a couple years left of warranty and don't want to void it in the slight chance I might need it for something.

MSI will let you open your laptop without voiding the warranty, but only to change hard drives and RAM. I'm almost certain repasting will void MSI's warranty. My old laptop was an MSI.

Clevo laptops allow you to repaste without voiding the warranty. It's WHY everyone recommends those machines. They're epic in every way and other brands are only just NOW starting to creep up to their level really. :P

That's for desktops. I've already mentioned, very fundamentally different from laptops.

MSI US allows for repasting as long as you don't break anything in the process. Also liquid metal voids your warranty everywhere officially, but most people have 0 issue getting warranty on them because so little people actually use it and so few go to warranty that the average Dell or MSI tech guy doesn't know what to look for. If you're looking for a good standard paste, then it's gelid Gc. Also, always test with a standard paste before hand, and when using liquid metal, I'd get super88 tape as insurance. Look at how iunlock does it in the thread I linked above.
