So I've purchased a discounted B150 motherboard and I'm in a bit of a pickle deciding which processor to get. So I'll list the main things I do and maybe you guys can give me some pointers.

I'm not a huge gamer to be honest, I mainly play Overwatch and occasionally Minecraft.

I do photoshop work, and I do quite like toying with 3D modeling in there.

I'm taking a new class at school where I'm doing light CAD work.

But it'd be nice to have the option to do something like light video editing and stuff like that.

So as I live in Iceland there's still quite a big price difference between kabylake and skylake around $60 USD between a 6600k and a 7600k.

Thanks

i run an i3 6100 in 1 of my computers i use every day and for minecraft its fine i would get a discrete graphics card for gaming and video/photoshop/cad stuff.
for a cpu look at an i5 if you think you would be doing alot of video and photoshop stuff you would be better off with the i7.

when it comes to skylake v kabylake i would get a skylake its prices should be dropping as more kabelake stuff comes out but you will want to hurry because they most likly wouldnt be large stocks of them.

Any reasons as to why, over the 6600 and 7600 etc.

6600 - You're paying for a higher clockspeed, and it's too expensive for it.

7600 - Literally no performance increase clock for clock.

But then I think is the 6500 worth the 40$ difference to the 6400.

(Again, live in Iceland market's different.)

Thanks

for gaming, photoshop, video, and cad software will work better with higher core clock speeds and yes $40 could be a large amount in price for what might seem to be very little performance but long term you will get more out of the higher clock speed.

just make sure to look at how games u play handle the gpu your looking at, if your on a budget the 1050, 1050ti and 1060 should do fine and will help speed up other programs you dont want to use the igpu they suck badly for video and photoshop.

if your in no rush u could wait for AMDs new stuff to come out there cpus should be cheaper but theres no date as to when they will come out  and by then you might be stuck with the 7th gen cpus.

from everything i have herd theres not a huge performance difference between them not enough to make it worth paying extra for over the skylake cpus

your right its not a huge difference but 300mhz will make a difference long term, when your waiting for videos to render that could save time down the line. just comes down to you we cant make the choose for you, all we can do is give out 2cents and try to inform you as best we can.

a 960 is still a good card youll be fine with that for a while aslong as your not playing games at 4k with crazy high settings and stuff.
