There can be many factors (and bottlenecks) to consider, but the read speed of the HDD (assuming there is nothing wrong with it) would be the biggest factor. 60GB seems okay. It is dealing in hundreds of gigabytes that really make you wait.

I would be careful when transferring an OS set up for a HDD, and putting it onto a SSD. Unless the software is aware of this and makes the required changes automatically (and properly), I would suggest just making a clean install on the SSD.

But just to check, at the end run the Windows Disk Defrag tool, and see if it identifies the disk as a SSD.

You'll have to shrink the partition which may be difficult if you're using over 60GB.

Quite right. You can use some third party disk defrag tools, and let them do basic or even lengthy defrags. That way when the partition is being shrunk, it might just be able to make it. Otherwise you may have to remove some data off the drive, and repeat.

Despite my best efforts, I could never seem to be able to shrink my partition closely enough to what was really in use.
